I love the DK series of travel books for their ease of use, pictures, and maps. I have used many of their previous books including Paris, Amsterdam, London. Overall it's a very good book. I don't think their "Top 10" series are as good as their regular series, however.Pros:Nice illustrations, small local maps, extensive information about the sights. Good Metro map. Lots of information about places to eat. Good recommendations about locations outside of the city (I highly recommend visiting Stanley).Cons:Some of the maps are too small to be of help. This was especially true for the "New Kowloon" area which is pretty much useless as there are no streets and their dot could potentially be in a 1/4 mile area. I think there is too much emphasis on restaurants. It seems like "places to eat" took up more pages than the actual "10 top sites" in each section. I guess if you are really going to Hong Kong for dining vs seeing the city, this is ok. There was some incorrect info. For example, the closing day for museums was Mondays, not Tuesdays as indicated in the book.Overall another good book from DK and I will continue using them as my go to guide book. This was published in 2016 so hopefully the next edition will be coming out soon with some minor improvements.

I used this book during my trip to Hong Kong and it was an incredible journey. It has many attractions off the beaten path and it is absolutely comprehensive. It guided me through places otherwise not advertised. I went on the Heritage a trail and it was quite an experience. No markings, no bus stops, just immersed in a totally unique experience which was quite remote. I recommend this book for anyone with little time and great curiosity. I took incredible pictures and enjoyed a trip of a lifetime.

This book made our trip wonderful! Every item they recommended in it was to die for that we saw. I had just 5 days to spend in Hong Kong, and I followed all the recommendations, and had a spectacular time. Aberdeen was a great hidden gem, so was Lamma Island, Victoria's Peak, the light show. The maps were invaluable. I never go wrong with DK travel books! Highly recommend them and getting an Octopus card. To improve - add more hotel information and more information on the ferry, bus and subway transportation. If you are going to Hong Kong, i would recommend researching hotels and the transportation using other sources than just this book.

This seems to be the best guide that there is for Hong Kong. It is reasonably effective at highlighting some of the main sights. It is fairly out-of-date on some things that used to be good, but really aren't very good any more. Hong Kong is a vibrant, happening place, where things change. It also omits a lot of detail as far as locations and hours, so you are constantly having to supplement it with more research. With that being said, it was often helpful.

Very easy to use. Brief paragraphs about different attractions with information on how to get there. Plus a nice map as an extra. Nice for a quick overview.

Purchased as a gift for a client who was traveling to Hong Kong. They loved it and said it has been helpful for them to plan their visits.

As most people who read self-help books, for many years I am a sufferer of anxiety and fear. Sometimes, my fear comes to be panic. I trace back these fears to the education I suffered in childhood and which, among other mistakes, made me believe in a God who is more ready to punish us than to allow us to be happy. For example, God gave us the sexual pleasure, but the Church makes us believe that this pleasure, out of wedlock, is a mortal sin and condemns us eternally to hell. If our father was authoritarian and severe a person, it's no wonder that we believe that our father in heaven is alike, with far more power to punish our faults. And it is no use telling us, at the same time, that both parents love us and that the punishment is for our good. The fear was introduced to always, in our credulous minds and hearts . The basic belief that we are sinners, guilty and not worthy of a happy life is rooted in us, for the benefit of the authors of self-help books and to our unhappiness.As I was reflecting on my fears and anxieties and reading books that could help me overcome them, I began to realize that everything depends on our thoughts and the emotions that are associated with them. What many of these books tell us is to have positive thoughts. But I found out that there is no positive thinking without the negative thinking. Our mind is dual: when we think of "day", that thought brings the thought "night"; When we think of "life", we also think "death". Which of the opposing thoughts will be predominant in our mind? Depends on the beliefs that are stored in us. In my case, as one of my core beliefs is that I am a sinner who deserves to be punished, the thought "death" has more power than the thought "life", because it is in accordance with my belief.Later, and after having read a few more tens of books, I realized the concept of "resistance". I realized that trying to impose, by force, a positive thinking against the negative thinking, which made me feel anxious, had as a result give even more power to negative thinking. In the war between what I want and what I feel (what I believe), the winner is always what I feel. So, try to change my negative thoughts, opposing them with positive thoughts, is resisting negative thoughts and this resistance is precisely what feeds negativity.So if resistance isn't the solution, what to do?While I was going through these dark emotional experiences, with fear as the dominant factor, also had wonderful experiences, what I call " eye winks" of God ", as if God wanted to tell me that I'm never alone and that He is not how I was taught. These experiences are what the authors call "synchronicities". I will tell one of the most stunning.In 1971, I was on a beach in Africa with my wife and a 2 year old daughter. On that day, the beach was deserted. The closest one was over 500 feet away. I felt absolutely at peace with myself.I love the sea and the day was splendid. Then came to my mind the thought that that paradise was about to end. The vacation would end the next day, because we had no money to go on.Without losing my peaceful and happy state of mind, I asked my wife how much money would be needed to stay one more week and she said it would take a lot of money - about 500 dolars. Indeed a lot of money in 1971!Relaxed, I stretched my arms back and buried my fingers in the sand. I felt something touching my fingers of the left hand. I grabbed it and ... It was a 500 bill folded in four, buried in the sand, right behind me.Out of the blue (or rather the sand) was there exactly the money we needed to stay an extra week in that paradise. Neither more nor less!In the year that I had this experience, I had never heard of.Law of Attraction, positive thinking, visualization, Silva Mind Crontol, the power of now, power energy, quanta, manifesting desires, etc. What happened was totally spontaneous. And I had many other identical experiences, of which much later-and thanks to some books that I have read-I got an important conclusion: whenever I'm quiet, without wanting it to happen something, without worry for not having what I would prefer to have, without making any effort to have that thing, I get it. This has already happened to me dozens of times.This means that all the practices and techniques I have learned in these self-help books are wrong? In other words, any technique is a form of resistance? And the secret is to accept rather than resist? But what exactly is to accept?And what has this to do with the fear, stress and anxiety?Some of the books I read gave me a glimpse of what is acceptance. To accept is to be attentive to what is happening in me and outside me. If I'm afraid, acceptance is to see this fear in me. Is to observe the fear, rather than react to it. That way, I don't add any thought to fear; I only notice. I can assure you that, when I do this, the fear will go away after a few moments. Why?The answer is a surprising discovery that I don't remember seeing reported in any book. I discovered that fear is ... the fear of being afraid! We do not are afraid of this or that-God, the devil, death, disease, misery, flying, etc. We are afraid of being afraid, period. And, so, when we give our attention to the fear that we are feeling rather than trying to avoid it-and we accept it as we accept the wind in the trees, what we are doing is not being afraid of being afraid.And, if we are not afraid of being afraid, then we have no fear at all.

I don't know what I would do without Abraham's books....Emotions are our way of communication with God, Source, Creator, our Soul....what ever you want to call it. We have to tune in and stop trying to turn them off!

Haven't read this one yet but, I borrowed this book from the library years ago. I saw it here for a good price and had to have it. I bought "Ask and it is Given". Fantastic book as well which i highly recommend too. Get both of them. You'll be glad you did. You need all of you to ignite LOA and people are always pushing their feelings away considering it a weakness. Ehhh (buzzer).....wrong. You need your emotions because as i read "Your emotions are the antennae of your thoughts". I'm an HSP/EMPATH so my feelings are always on and as a kid growing up people always tried to make me temper my emotions. Ehhh (buzzer)....wrong and and i knew it was wrong. I believe that we need to use all our senses. That's what they are there for.

This book helped me understand where my emotions were coming from and helped guide me to change them to better feeling emotions. Their information was extremely helpful and life changing. This is the same book as Sushi & Beyond (minus one chapter) that was published in 2009. All Michael Booth's books are entertaining just wish this was a new one.

I took me back to my time in Japan the the enjoyment of its varied and exquisite cuisine.Booth writes with humor and wonderment about more than just the food.

A lovely book about a family's culinary journey through Japan. It will make you want to book a flight tomorrow.

It had started off as a perfectly temperate discussion about the relative merits of French and Japanese cuisines. I had recently had dinner at the feted French restaurant SaQuaNa, in Honfleur, on the Normandy coast. The chef, Alexandre Bourdas, was a fast-rising culinary star in France, and I had innocently remarked on his lightness of touch and the freshness of his raw ingredients, drawing what turned out to be a rash comparison between his food and Japanese cooking. I knew that Bourdas had worked in Japan for three years, so it didn’t seem too outlandish to suggest that his cooking had been influenced by the food he had eaten there.I ought to have known this would be a red flag to my friend Katsotoshi Kondo.“What do you know about Japan food, huh?” Toshi snapped. “Do you think you know anything about Japanese food? Only in Japan!”…“I have something for you.”He handed me a large hardback with a blurry painting of a leaping fish on the cover. Momentarily taken aback, I promised to read it and thanked Toshi….The book was Japanese Cooking: A Simple Art by Shizuo Tsuji… published in 1979… As I would later discover, it is still the preeminent English-language Japanese food reference source, the bible of Japanese cooking for a generation of Japanophile food lovers throughout the world….Shortly after finishing the book… I made a rash, impulsive, and, it would turn out, life-changing decision. Based upon what I heard, I would not hesitate to pick up another audio voiced by Lister.The Super Sushi Ramen Express: One Family's Journey through the Belly of Japan is an entertaining guide to one of the most food-obsessed countries in the world. I'm just writing this to get this off my review wall. bought for my son.

This set includes the trilogy, along with the extra book titled, "Four". I actually recommend reading Four first. It's the comets set. My 13 year old triplet boys started reading this series in school. They couldn't stop talking about it, so I bought this series for them, and I even read it myself. It's very, very good. The movie is pretty good too; although, the books are a lot more detailed. I highly recommend this series. I would caution for younger readers as the two main characters have some heated moments. Nothing that heavy, but on the line. I wouldn't want my 8 year old reading something like that. I hope this review has been helpful for the parents out there. All in all.. Definitely a great series! A Must Read!

First off, I have to admit that it is difficult for me to rate this book without rating the series as a whole, so that is what I am going to do. It turns out I cannot review this series without comparing it to Hunger Games.There is a great deal of similarity between this series and Hunger Games. Teenage coming-of-age adventure story in a post-apocalyptic dystopian society. I could go further into the premise, but it really does not make much sense outside the context of the book.Again, like Hunger Games, I found the first book gripping and devoured it quickly. The second book did a good job of keeping up that pace.Then the third book comes up, and, once again like Hunger Games, it takes the "Us vs. Them" story and throws in "oh look, These Guys Too! Bet you didn't see THAT coming!" plot hook, and things go off the rails for me. The first two books seem to be building your hope for the characters and the world they live in and the ability for them to make the world better. Then they expand the world, and the third book goes about crushing your hopes of a happy ending.While reading the first two books, I was a little bummed that it would be over in three. By the time I was about a quarter through the third book, I was ready for it to be done. I was looking forward to Four during the first two books. After reading the third, I don't have any real interest in reading Four anymore.The real world does not have happy endings for everyone, but this isn't really about happy endings. It is more about building up these characters to great heights with the implication that they will usher in a new age. Then, it turns out in the end they are a cog in a machine in the end. Important, sure, but used to an end just the same. I would actually rate the first two books at five stars, but the third book is such a letdown that it brings down the whole series for me, and this book is useless without the other two. If you read Hunger Games and loved it, this scratches the same itch. In the end, I didn't hate it, but it lost a lot of luster quickly in the end.

I have to start by saying that watching the Divergent movie made me want to read the book. I really enjoyed the movie and I thought for sure there was more in the book. Movie goers didn’t miss as much as I had hoped.Beatrice is about to take the test that will determine which of the five factions she will go into for the rest of her life. The five factions are: Candor (the honest), Amity (the peaceful), Erudite (the intelligent), Dauntless (the brave) and Abnegation (the selfless). Each of the factions carries out certain job throughout the city. Those without factions do all the dirty work and have no rights in society. Born into Abnegation, everyone thinks she will stay in. On the day of the test, Beatrice learns she is Divergent. Fitting into not just one, but many factions. She chooses Dauntless and is told to keep her Divergent identity secret. In dauntless Beatrice renames herself Tris, and she is tested to determine who she really is. Her failure could leave her factionless. Her testing will reveal that she is divergent if she isn’t careful. Being divergent might just get her killed.I can’t believe how spot on the movie was. I could completely picture the scenes while I read this book. There were only a few details left out of the movie Divergent. This book was really addictive. Even though I knew what was going to happen, I couldn’t stop reading the story. There were a few interactions left out and we get a more in depth look at Tris’ struggle to leave Abnegation and her whole family behind. The development of her relationship to Four made much more sense in the book and he was instrumental in the end. We also get more of an explanation of Tris’ fears and why Four was so different from his peers when he graduated.I really enjoyed the character building, getting to know her friends and her fears. The author is able to draw in the reader right from the start. The location of this story is a dytopian Chicago. I liked the gradual world building in this story. The whole society is cut off from the outside. The idea that people are either of 5 personalities was really problematic for divergents because they have characteristics from more than one. The struggle to pick just one thing for the rest of your life is something a lot of young adults can probably relate to as they make career choices, so this story may feel close to home.

I’m an MBA grad. Bought this book for my wife who is not a business major and needed a crash course on accounting for a certificate in management through her employer. This book was amazing! This would have made undergrad accounting courses that much easier. Great gift for high school grads or pre-business students. If you have a BS in business this book is a repeat of your financial and managerial accounting courses in undergrad. I don’t think you’ll learn something new from it.

Super spoilers here... I've always had a thing against Valmont, so I'm pleased with the outcome. I loved the book, like all the others it was great. I love Bryn, she's so easy to identify with. That being said, I feel this book was kind of slow and drawn out, then we get to the big emotional epic parts of the book and BAM! those are over in a heartbeat. The way Bryn was acting after her friend died....blew my mind. This girl has had the biggest of all dramatic fits about Zavien and her current love issues... but she didn't seem affected much by something that changes her entire life from now on. Her betrothed will never be the same, this is a huge loss. The book just ends almost right after that with no more thought to the friend. That really bothered the hell out of me. The chemistry between Bryn and Jaxon is something I love as well, but we don't see much of it in this book. He isn't as present as past books.

In the beginning of this series, I wasn't a huge fan of Bryn. She seemed childish and freaked when something didn't go her way. Since the first book, you've seen her slowly mature and take her family' reputation more seriously. As you get to the end of this book, you see her transform into a true Blue (but not in a bad way.) This is the best book in the series so far! You'll smile, laugh, and cry as you read this book. Finally, the book doesn't actually end in a cliffhanger, but it ends in the way that leaves you are frustrated because you crave to know more about how she is feeling and what is going to happen between her relationships between friends, family, enemies, and frienemies. I can't wait for the next book!!!!

So, if you have been reading this series, you know what has been going on. Well, I can tell you that if you do not read this book, you will miss out on something HUGE!! I mean, jaw dropping huge that you will not see it coming at all! I know I didn't.Again, Chris Cannon has gone above and beyond my expectations. Her writing is wonderful to read. The chemistry and the angst that the characters have is perfect and you can feel it coming off the pages! I implore you to get this book now!!

I'm not sure if I loved this book or hated it...... No I totally loved it.... But I'm mad at myself about my love of it! The twists and turns in this book were RIDICULOUS! I definitely didn't see them coming, and while I absolutely love that, I'm also mad bc it means the book didn't go how I was hoping/thinking it would! (I will begrudgingly admit it was even better than my weak brain's attempt.) This book set a dramatic climax for the last book, and I am DYING to see how Chris Cannon will blow my mind next.

Action, Romance, and plot twist are what await you in this new addition to the series. This is probably my favorite one yet. You see the characters come more into their own while struggling to live through things no normal Junior in highschool would ever go through. Chris once again hit this on out of the Park, buy her wonderful style of making you feel like you are right their with the characters. A must read not only for teens and young adults but adults as well! Can't wait for more!!!!! Small spoiler makes more sense once your done...I'm totally team JAXON!!!!!

Good read. Non stop action along with an emotional rollercoaster. Some tacky language but not much. Clean and fit for younger readers. 16+. I do hope this isn't the end of the story even though it looks like a major triangle is forming. Hate those. The Directorate and Jaxon's father need to hit the ground and not be allowed back up.

Great story! Lots of interesting developments with the hybrid dragons and the gang goes on lots of exploring adventures to find clues. The ending is very sad but leaves an opening for developments of certain relationships for Bryn. I am hoping for Jaxon but you don't see any real developments in this book but we'll see in the next. The book does have some foul language but is a clean book which I like. I am hoping Ms. Cannon doesn't make us wait a year for the next book! Great story!

Which is necessary. You have to get from point to point and this is the way Kevin Hearne is getting there. But you won't get resolution, not yet.It's beautifully written (as always). This is the first book in which Granuaile has her own voice. She's a full character now, co-equal with Atticus. Chapters alternate in the first person, her speaking, him speaking. At first, it jarred me a little, but then, I liked it. Nice to have both a male and female primary character in a fantasy novel. I can't remember if I've ever read a book in this genre where both sexes had equal roles. It takes a bit of getting used to, but it's all good.I'm not going to give anything away. No spoilers, sorry.If you are a fan of the series, you will like the book. It's probably not quite what you expect, but it's excellent. It's a very critical link for what's coming.And it's Granuaile's coming of age. In a way, it's also Atticus' coming of age, even though you might think he's seen it all and done it all. Not so. A lot of new stuff for him to chew on, work his way through, not the least of which is having a real relationship with someone other than his dog.There are a lot of surprises and plot twists. Not all endings are happy. There are victories ... temporary wins. Holding actions. I'm not sure there are any victories to be had at this stage as the world draws close to Ragnarök. It's all survival, treachery and slippery alliances.I think I will have to hold my breath for the next book. And I need to read this one a couple more times to really absorb it. It flew by way too fast. If you have not read any of the previous books, do yourself a favor and do not start with this one. Start at the beginning. There is a lot of history and the characters have all been built through the entire series. They won't make sense without the earlier books.It's available in paperback and on Kindle. Thoroughly enjoyable, well-written and well-researched books with an interesting premise. I am more than happy to give Kevin Hearne a 5 star rating in addition to purchasing everything he has published. I hope many others discover the fun adventures of The Iron Druid and a very entertaining cast of characters. However, the reader must jump through a mandatory hoop if you choose to leave a rating. Star ratings are not acceptable on their own. No, any star rating is booby-trapped with the requirement of a written review, further weighted with a minimum word count, no less! Write a review or no stars from you. This is a tad bit bit onerous for the buyer who enjoyed reading the book and respects the author enough to pause and tap some stars. The demand for written review effectively prevented me from posting the 5 star rating that might encourage others to enjoy an excellent book. This is ultimately unfair to Mr. Hearn, undoubtedly depriving him of many well-deserved 5 star ratings. Guilt eventually caught up with me, so herein lies not only my enthusiastic support of this book, but a bonus review of a misguided policy: to the Kindle folks or whoever came up with this Either/Or toll: lighten up on the needy/greedy gate keeping, already.

Kevin Hearne has created a magical version of our world (and a wonderful mash up of world mythology) as told by a two thousand year old Druid who only looks to be in his twenties, living in Arizona. Every book is witty and action-packed, great entertainment. Once you start, you will want to read every one, in order. Highly recommended.

Well number 6 of the Iron Druid Chronicles series Kevin Hearne. This is definitely a step up from Trapped. Hunted took you on a whole new level of adventures, with so much going on you'd think it would be hard to keep up however it flowed quite smoothly.However, the first time the POV change it did confuse me for a sentence or two, but then it became the norm for the book though there weren't too many.This book though will definitely get you the feelers, I mean you grow with each character in a book, and when something happens, you feel that as well.But alas, there are happy times in this book too, as well as the glorious laughs you get with these books, the quips are just downright hilarious.I'm quite interested on what's going to happen in the next book, and this one leaves you with a "Oh Snap!" at the end. OH SNAP!
