This book is printed on good quality, thick paper. The pictures are excellent! It has an EXCELLENT INDEX in the back starting with page 521 thru page 543 for ready referencing ALL of its quality contents. I am VERY pleased with this book! We like it so well that we will be ordering it again for a 2nd copy for my wife to use as we study it together. It has a wealth of excellent information to help seniors that are new to the technological world of smart phones. This book is a real WINNER, and I most definitely can recommend it with a FIVE STAR RATING.

I hate this book! I must be exceptionally stupid, but I just cannot understand anything. I did graduate college Summa (albeit many years ago!) but this is just defeating me. It's too expensive to mail back. I will enjoy ripping out every page and burning it!!! Does anyone know of a book (I didn't get the manual - it is an old phone given to me) that is EASY for an old 76-year old stupid grandmother to understand? I'm in tears.

Bought this book for my mom, who is new to a smartphone (though she is quite literate with Windows). I'm usually her tech support person, but since I don't live nearby and don't have an Android phone, I bought this book for her. She loves all the pictures in it and says it is very clear. She was able to pick things she wanted to learn at her leisure and didn't feel pressured to pick it up quickly like she might if someone was showing her. Rather than calling me for support, she's texted me to tell me (or show me) what she's learned. This book has made the transition easy for her.I can't comment on the content because I actually haven't seen the book, but other reviews led me to believe that all the pictures would make it fun to learn without being long-winded/confusing/condescending. But I can tell you that if your mom or dad just got a Samsung Galaxy S5 and isn't exactly sure what to do next, I highly recommend this book.

I love this book. It is a cornucopia of fascinating chess history and trivia. I learned who is the real father of the "Hypermodern" idea of controlling the center with the pieces rather than the pawns. It's not Nimzowitsch. It's not Reti. Exactly why are the Indian Defenses called Indian? What's so French about the French Defense? Just who was Captain Evans? These questions -- and scads more! -- are answered in a sometimes gut-busting and always an engaging style. Highly recommended to all chess lovers.

Not another book on how to play chess openings - this book is different. It goes into the history of some of the unusual names used for famous chess openings and the people and places behind them. Fascinating for all levels of chess player.Includes diagrams of each opening plus photos of the grandmasters who they are named after. Plus why the opening was important and the effects it had on the game in the time it was introduced.Clearly, Nathan has a great love of the game and its history.I received a pre-release copy of this book for review purposes and bought it on Kindle when it came out because it is so good.

Chess Opening Names provides a fascinating backwards look into the many cultural influences that have come to shape the game, keeping track of where and how it has been played in bygone eras. A great read for the chess enthusiast.

Being a relative novice on the chess scene, I was apprehensive as to whether I would enjoy this book. However, after barely finishing the preface there was no way I was going to put this book down. The author provides a well researched history of the intriguing and often quirky back-stories behind many chess opening names. There is no other compilation like this and the content inevitably led me to further research of my own in the area. I love the latent humour dispersed throughout this book and also the fact that it is comfortably read in a single sitting. The book is completely different to existing chess literature and this author truely knows how to tell a story. Looking forward to the next book!!

The information is paltry; a high school student could have done a better job. Nevertheless, the book is entertaining.

Nathan seem to be a writer of everything. This book works out great for me because I can take it to the doctors office and read a few openings at a time. This is more a history book than a book about openings but if you don't know much about the names of famous players or openings this is a great place to start.

I am a history buff and seeing it through the lens of epic chess battles has always fascinated me. Nathan did a fantastic job crafting this book. Well researched and well written. Highly entertaining even for non-chess aficionados as it sticks to the core ideas and tense moments only openings can offer.

This isn't an instructional playbook as it is the back story of why the openings are named the way they are.This is perfect for me because I remember opening plays with the context of a back-story. I have been a fan of Trevis since my early dx in 2005. Found him on a monthly radio-type call in talk show, through the Computer. I here in NJ and he on the Northwest coast. His show was so interesting and educational, I considered him my first mentor in MS. Glad that I was finally able to get his book in Kindle version, as I really need White on Black background to see better. Also of Irish decent, I will never visit the home of my ancestors, but enjoyed taking a vicarious trip with him and all his adventures.Unlike Trevis, my faith is strong, and my dogs have taught me what His "unconditional love" means..as it has always escaped my understanding in humanity. good, engaging read - Loved the book Trevis! I know you're a good soul, because you're obviously "Dog Approved"!

This book is a delight. At the heart of the story is a man living with MS and his sweet dog, Sadie. The author transports us to a small Irish village where he spent 89 days over one winter. The place is charming, quirky and everything I've imagined rural Ireland to be. The natives and the revolving door of house guests add to the mix, creating a memorable cast of characters. The journey he takes us on, both emotional and physical, is funny, sweet and sad simultaneously. He reminds us that our lives can get derailed by powers out of our control, but a new path doesn't mean life isn't worth living. His account left me wanting more and longing for my own trip to Ireland. Food plays an integral part in this story (hence the 'chef' in the title), and the recipes woven throughout are a treat. I can't wait to try steak and Guinness! I highly recommend this wonderful book.

I enjoyed this book tremendously! It is also the way that I have chosen to live my life with MS. I would recommend this book to everybody. There are always challenges for everybody just of different magnitude. I will not give up and I will not give in... The Motto I have chosen to live my life. Trevis Gleason bravely took on a difficult challenge: from living a very busy professional life to getting a multiple sclerosis diagnosis that took away so many of his physical abilities. Instead of retreating & pulling away from people, Trevis embarked on an adventure in Ireland. I would recommend this book to those living with health challenges, as well as those seeking empathy. Witty & engaging!

The parts about dealing with MS were very interesting. There are recipes in the book which I enjoyed. The charm of Ireland comes through. The writing is more like reading a collection of letters than a well crafted book. Still I enjoyed seeing this country through the author's eyes.

I'm almost done with this book and I like it. He even includes some very authentic recipes that I am wanting to try. But I love most the author's descriptions of the quaint life he has chosen and the virtues of turning off the madness of the world in search of a simpler time. Sometimes he gets too heavy into the irish way of phrasing things and its difficult to follow. But it all lends to the charm of his experiences.

This book might be about a man with multiple sclerosis but that’s just the side story! It’s really about living life fully and reaching for your dreams. It’s a delightful read about Ireland, people, the joy of having a dog and a chef’s passion for food. He also kindly shares recipes. It’s a great read for any and all. I felt so sad when the book ended. I hope Trevis writes another one soon.

Super Boys is a great read. Not only do you get the whole picture over an extended time frame you also are provided the behind the scenes view. The human element makes it an emotional read. Regardless of your age the story is universal and due to its "Everyman" characteristic the saga appeals of all readers. This is one book that will not disappoint.

While I enjoyed this book a great deal, it was sometimes a tedious read. The author delves deeply into every possible origin of Superman. From the costume, to the individual powers, to the name of Superman and Clark Kent. He gives the reader a good idea of the history of the era as well.I read the book to get a better insight into Siegel and Shuster. There was a fair amount of conjecture into Siegel's thoughts.Once the author got to the lawsuits regarding the ownership of Superman, the book gained a lot of steam and was a better read for me.I rate the book highly, even with the tedious nature of the telling of Siegel's early days as a writer.

I grew up in Cleveland listening to my mother tell us about how she sat in study hall with jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster as they wrote the beginnings of Superman. Sharing her friendship with these two talented and creative boys was a highlight of my childhood. When I saw that the book came out, I was fascinated to hear more about this story. It was everything I expected. The most enlightening part of this saga was the detailed philosophy of Superman's character and the differences between him an other super heroes Growing up in Cleveland and listening to stories from someone who was actually there as it all began was huge., Reading the book was like hearing the later parts of my mother's life story. Thank you Brad Ricca for your extraordinary research and story telling.

A great, detailed biography of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster focusing on hometown, local information and examinations of hard to findfanzine and high school documents. It is always easy to find flaws and items left out when reviewing the span of 2 lives, but Brad unearths new, original information and clears up myths( like Jerry's father dying from shock, not a gunshot, during a robbery) through thoroughresearch. My favorite parts were the details of the creators high school lives and writings in fanzines they created and the Torch high school newspaper. He also goes into newspaper articles about super athlete Jessie Owens thatJerry probably read in the month when the idea of Superman was birthed. A little speculation butthe influences and conjectures ring true. All of the background of the early science fiction and pulp magazine heyday coupled with high school alienation made the creation of Superman more authentic and clear than I have ever read before. Joe Shuster is also treated with more detail and respect than any other author has given him. After seeing rare examples of his early artwork and prize winning posters, his talent is truly honored. The guy was a terrific artist. Poor vision may have limited his evolution but Jerry was lucky to have had such a talentedcollaborator. Some of the stories of his later life are sad, but show that he was a man with a bigheart. Nice to see the respect with which Brad treats him. In short this is a terrific read for anyone interested in comic book history or influences on Pop culture. It also is an insightful look at the American dream of success and fame and howa great idea and subsequent riches can often be snatched from the rightful creators. That unfortunately makes this a universal story.

I read Gerard Jones' "Men of Tomorrow" and Marc Tyler Nobleman's "Boys of Steel" which covered the same ground and were very good but this book, 10 years in the making, is amazing! So much detail you wonder if the author spun around the world at super speed and turned back time in order to follow the events as they occurred. Thanks to years of being a Superman fan and reading the aforementioned books I knew enough about Jerry and Joe but I knew nothing about their early years, Jerry's wartime service, Joe's post Superman work, Jerry's Marvel work, and their days after getting the pension from DC/Warner Bros. Unless Jerry and/or Joe kept some journals of some kind that have yet to be unearthed, I think it may be safe to say that this will be the final word on their lives. If you're a Superman fan or of comic book history, this is required reading.

Good, fun book with tons of info I hadn't come across before. A good source in my undergrad thesis in the section concerning Superman.
