Disappointed to say the least.I purchased this "Dummies" book waiting for David Busch's book to be released. I had to get to page 128 before Shutter priority was finally addressed. This book was obviously intended for beginners. But if that were so, why would a beginner purchase the newest and arguably the greatest APS-C camera on the market so far. On page 140 the paragraph heading is "Using Custom Functions". I thought, finally, let's get to the meat of the camera". But no! Here's a quote. "Unfortunately I'd have to buy my editor a year's supply of her favorite hair-coloring product if I covered every custom function."Also, he tells you how to do something, but not why you would want to do it. Not much is going to be learned about photography in this book.Now I know why they call it ...for dummies. You've got to be one to buy this thing. Unfortunately you don't find that out until AFTER you buy it.For the person that just purchased their first DSLR, and it happens to be the Canon EOS 7D Mark II, you'll be in over your head, and this book will teach you some of the basics of photography theory, and most of the functions of the camera but that's about it. It's not complete by any means.What a disappointment. If I could I would give this 2 1/2 stars AT BEST.Anybody want to buy a copy cheap?

Barely made three stars. You are not going to learn how to operate the Canon7D Mark-II from this book. Has a few good pointers. That's about it.

The book is informative,but the author is condescending to the reader especially for someone who owns this type of camera. He/She did not just move up from a point and shoot.. Book needed to be written in more of a straight forth manner./ Leave out the nonsensical annoying comments along the way. They are quite distracting and unnecessary. .Hope fully not all " Dummies" books are written in such a mannerI give the book three stars at best because of the manner it is written.

I was thoroughly disappointed with this book. The title should be changed to "Canon EOS 7D Mark II for Dummies Who Know Nothing About Photography, But Bought Themselves a Pro-Grade Camera." When I buy a camera-model specific book, I expect to find information specific to that model of camera. Instead, this book was padded with information on fundamentals. Most of the book consists of instruction on the basics of photography, including exposure, the rule of thirds, composition, depth of field, how to pan, how to avoid camera shake, motion blur, how to shoot landscapes, macros, portraits, how to photograph sunsets, wildlife, and defining your photographic goals. There's a lengthy section on using the full auto mode. Really? On a 7D Mark II? This isn't the Canon T5!Furthermore, whenever we approach anything a serious photographer would want to read, the author repeatedly states that space doesn't permit him to address the topic. When discussing custom functions, he says, "Unfortunately, I'd have to buy my editor a year's supply of hair coloring product if I covered every custom function." Hey, that's why I bought the book!I know this is a "For Dummies" book, but I've read many in that series that were seriously detailed. This one isn't.Unfortunately, it appears that the publisher of David Busch's excellent guides may have run into financial problems, and his book on the 7D II won't be forthcoming. Here's two alternative suggestions. You can either buy the Kindle-only Canon 7D Mark II Experience book, or if you want a paper book with Busch's level of detail, you could buy Busch's guide to the Canon 5D Mark III. Sure, it's a different camera, and there's some significant differences between them, but the menu structure of the 7D II is quite similar to that of the 5D III, and most of the advanced features work the same.

I don't why some readers gave this book a negative review. I found it extremely helpful, with some great tips, helpful hints and and overall understanding of the EOS 7D Mark II. Book is well written, clear and easy to follow with illustrated shots and helpful graphics. I learned about syncing my external 600 EX RT flash with my built-in flash, shooting in TV and AV modes, ideal settings to use for various shooting scenarios such as wildlife or landscape and sporting events. Overall its a solid book to have. And the author has a chapter dedicated to advanced features for the more tech savvy users. Now if you are a pro, why the heck are you reading this? And you should be shooting with the EOS 5D Mark IV anyways...

After years and years of brake in this hobby, by the time I get back in to photography the cameras became almost tiny computers with lenses attached to them. So this was my fist purchase to understands the basics of my 7DM2 and I am glad I did.Photography is fun and so is this book. Just treat it as the title indicates, lightly but curiously and you'll be happy and have fun too!

A well written book that covers most aspects of this complex camera. I found this book to be very useful as it explained some of the more esoteric aspects of the camera in a clear and concise fashion. I am an experienced photographer but had found some of the focusing modes on this camera rather difficult to setup in a way that I could use them easily. This book easily covered that area.Although it is a 'for Dummies' book it is aimed at all levels and should not be assumed to be for novices only. A useful, well illustrated and accurate book and will help you get the most out of your new 7D Mk II.

For as many as two hundred days a year, gale-force winds blow there with gusts ranging from fifty to eighty miles per hour. The waves can reach ninety feet high or more.Yet for hundreds of years, if anyone wanted to sail west from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean, they had no choice. They had to round the Horn. Surviving the trip became the sign of a truly brave seaman. After a sailor had managed to sail around the Horn three times, he could wear a silver earring, as a badge of honor. Many did not make it. No one knows for sure, but there may be one thousand shipwrecks lying under the water, and as many as fifteen thousand drowned sailors.People dreamed of an easier way to sail from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. On maps, one place looked very promising. This was the Isthmus of Panama. An isthmus is a narrow strip connecting two pieces of land. The Isthmus of Panama joins Central America to South America. On one side is the Caribbean Sea, which runs into the Atlantic Ocean. On the other, the Gulf of Panama flows into the Pacific. At its narrowest, the isthmus is only thirty miles wide. The Atlantic and the Pacific looked so close together there! Surely some way could be found to cut across. Then ships would be able to sail right through Panama. The trip would become thousands of miles shorter, and no one would have to risk their lives sailing around Cape Horn.

We are cruising the Panama canal with friends for the holidays and borrowed this book from a local library. It is informative and provides a "light, easy to read version" of the canals history. We decided to purchase the book. Its paperback, affordable and easy to carry. We can highlight some of the more noteworthy facts to look for as we pass through the canal. Although it's promoted for children it can also be enjoyed by adults.

8 year old grandson wrote his very first book report on this book and the teacher wrote on his report "Wow, I want to read this book!"

My son and I read this book together before visiting the Panama Canal. It was a great historical overview with pictures to help give context to this massive marvel of modern history. We enjoyed it!

Exactly as expected, fast shipping, well pleased.

It was so complete yet so brief. It was written in a way that helps one remember it. More details on people involved would be helpful.

Just fabulous! Here is a box of postcards of New Yorker covers from the 1920s through 2011. I was really looking forward to them but had some qualms that they might be chosen for their "political correctness" and am happy to say that they were not! In fact, for the most part, these covers appear to have been chosen for their humor, nostalgia, clean lines, story-telling, great colors and somewhat seasonal factors. Not all of my favorites are here, but then I probably have a good deal more than 100 favorites.I have been a subscriber to The New Yorker for many years and the editors deserve heartfelt applause for daring to stay with the artistic covers and for not falling into the trap of alternating movie stars like Vanity Fair and every single other magazine has done to the immense boredom of readers and subscribers. I actually love my weekly New Yorker more for the covers than for the sameness and predictability of the stories and articles. I sincerely hope that by saying this I haven't jinxed these great artists, and Francoise Mouly, the Art Editor of the magazine, is to be congratuated!

These postcards are amazing. Well worth the price. Some of them were so funny that I couldn't bring myself to mail them to anyone...I want to keep and frame 'em. I had never really paid attention to the New Yorker magazine covers before and am so glad that I ordered this product. A great price for 100 postcards is what got my attention, and I'm glad it did.

Some cards were great while others were so-so.These cards are thick, and I mean THICK, they're like cardboard. Per USPS rules, postcards thicker than 16pt cannot be sent without an envelope or have to have a letter rate postage instead of postcard postage. These cards are probably 20pc or thicker.

They are nice thick cards but the collection is limited to more of the oddball covers. I have seen so many nice covers from the New Yorker but was a bit disappointed with the selection offered here. It seems like this is only a collection of a certain kind of artistic style. It is represented as "100 covers from ten decades" but they just are not what I expected.

Bought this book to use the postcards as the guestbook at my wedding. My fiance and I live in New York, but we are from the South. I am trying to find creative ways to share our NYC life with guests, and this is the perfect way! I bought several other New York postcard books because we are having 350 guests and this was by far the best value as I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars to track down cool and unique postcards for so many people. Definitely a great purchase and very happy about the price.

I really like them all. I start to send postcards to my friends all over the world. It is nice that you can choose the date for their birthdays. It is very nostalgic and cute.

I bought this package for Postcrossing, but you will probably need a pretty specific request or direct swap in order to use these cards. The art styles can seem repetitive in the same years, which makes sense, but there isn't much variety for sending out as random swaps. There are lots of cards of great quality, though, if you can find a use for them all.

Each card is unique. I love them. Very nice card stock with a dividing linr on back between address and message area. A lot of the other sets of 100 cards have duplicates--usually 2 of each of 50 cards. All 100 of these are different. I'm pleasantly pleased and surprised.

This author does not hold back,very enlightening on the daily struggles of a new amputee who shares his first-hand knowledge of questions and struggles that a person will experience with limb loss .I also found it to be uplifting to someone like myself with other health issues effecting the body.

I am not a direct victim of limb loss. I have a family member who has experienced this dreadful outcome and in ways, I feel like it has happened to me as well. Reading this book has given me an insight into what he was and is experiencing without him having to find the words himself. My eyes are opened to his true pain inside and out and for that I am greatly appreciative. I now feel like my family can move forward with confidence and assurance that we are all on the same page. Our road to recovery is now clear and I can praise God for an open and honest book. This book is very informative. I hope and pray that all people who have experienced amputation in some way can have a source of information like this book was for me. In some ways, this book provided stability and guidance that you just can't find on your own. Many praises for this book and what it has done for our family!

This was a very thorough and thoughtful book. He spoke from the heart and let you into the personal and "real" side of life after limb loss. I felt like I was walking beside him on his journey. I laughed, cheered, and cried through the pages as I read. Although I have never personally lived through a limb loss I have watched a friend struggle through a limb loss. I only wish this book had been around when she needed it. I highly recommend this book as a guide for a family or friend who may be facing or has faced a recent limb loss. Very valuable information. Well written. Thank you for sharing your story with others.

Michael Muhammed Knight is keen to keep the flame of islam alive by making the religion accessible to those who love the idea of submission to God but who do not agree with all the antifeminism and homophobia that it is often promoted by traditional religious authorities. In this book he gives an authentic account of his Hajj. He shows us some of the less appealing sides of Saudi Arabia including its racism which continues to this day. Nevertheless, he also has a genuine religious experience which he is willing to share. The book is well worth reading.

I read The Taqwacores without having an appreciation for the journey and story of the author, but after deepening my own path and getting some strong recommendations, I was eager to read more of Knight's work. Journey is a unique work, both travelogue and spiritual autobiography. It is replete with religious and pop culture references, of which I knew an astonishing amount - so much so that I thought, why haven't this brother and I met, already? I suspect that to a general audience, much of it will lead to scratching heads. But if you are Muslim or simply looking to explore a path of Truth with a fellow human being, this book is absolutely worth your time. It demonstrates not only the value of travel on the journey, but also of faith in the driver. Knight isn't afraid to admit the small truths - for example, that his travel was being paid for by advances on the book. He also seasons his moments of Truth with flashes of uncertainty, even ugliness from himself and from the ummah at large. In the end, he succeeds in supporting his early hypothesis that America is perhaps the best place to be a Muslim today - at least to the kind of person, who, when asked if they are Muslim, replies "insha'Allah."

I found almost every one of these chapters magical -- Michael Knight has more to say on a single topic than most writers grapple with in their entire careers. Think I'm exaggerating? He considers the Hermetic connections between the Abrahamic faiths, the uneasy role of Muhammad as both a religious and political revolutionary, Islam's crisis in accommodating the part of women, the charity shown by the faith's most intense acolytes, the harassment of its experimenters in the East and West - and these represent just a fraction of what he confronts. Knight proceeds always with literary precision, historical grounding, and ethical seriousness. Not to mention humor and a right dose of self-questioning. His writing brings a quality to the spiritual search that is missing in other books - a tectonic confrontation of the ancient and the new, with a deep sense of questioning and a willingness to sometimes get it right and sometimes get it wrong. There is just no voice on the literary world scene like Knight's.

Excellent reading, really draws you in and keeps the pages turning. If you're like me and have had a few introductory courses on Islam, South Asia, or/and the Near/Middle East, this will provide a very different perspective, and hopefully draw on and add to your current knowledge of the subject. Knight may not inspire a trip to Pakistan or conversion to Islam, but he'll certainly provide a vicarious reading experience that will get your own heart and mind involved, in both a cerebral and emotional context. I will also note that quite a bit of his writing may engender anger or irritation for the susceptible/sensitive reader. Not to judge a book by its cover, but the cover and title certainly are an amusing bonus.

The author (Michael `Muhammad' Knight) is a blue-eyed, white (Caucasian) American male who adopted Islam when he was about 17, and traveled (c. 2007) the Middle East in search of Islamic shrines, heavy metalic rock-bands, and drugs (not necessarily in that order). With his Muslim middle name, the author is able to use/abuse it to gain access to Muslims or Islamic sites to gain some `insight' about different Islamic practices in various Islamic communities. The author displays his extensive, well-read understanding of Islam (although he doesn't like militant-Islam). This is not a book that will be cited by academicians regarding the intricacies of Islamic theology. The author has found his `schtick': writing books how as a teenager he dropped out of Christianity and with drugs `turned on' to Islam (a theme that sells books). He liked the Islamic `oneness' of Allah (tawhid) - not divided into a sacrificed son and saints. When one of his books (The Taqwacores) was being planned for release in England, he agreed with his British publisher to `tone down' his hedonistic Islamic writings to avoid an Islamist backlash (p. 81). He acknowledges that he was able to ingratiate himself into foreign Islamic cultures because Muslims got a kick out of seeing a white, blue-eyed male that had dropped Christianity to become a Muslim: the author even wrote a book about his advantage: "Blue-Eyed Devil" (his study of the American Fard/Elijah Muhammad `Nation of Islam'). One would not portray the author as an Islamist, not at all, he is more of a hedonistic Muslim: uses and shares drugs in those Islamic cultures that are into either hashish (Syria/Pakistan) or chat/quat (Ethiopia/Yemen) to help him find Allah. Unlike an Islamist, he questions just about everything regarding Islam: he disdains the aya (verses) in the Quran that require women to `submit' to their husbands, or require women to pray separately from men, or forbid sex outside the confines of marriage. His concept of Islam is like a Chinese dinner menu: pick-and-choose the religious portions that appeal to you from the various columns. With his Muslim name, he was able to partake in the Hajj to Mecca, and it was unclear as to whether or not he was `stoned' while stoning the devil columns. Only wish there were more like himself: lighting up a bong instead of a bomb. Read this if you are interested in locating the better drug scenes throughout the Middle East, rather than for the author's Nietzsche-oriented Islamic theological concepts. A fun-reading irreverent look at Punk Islam.
