I read "The King O' the Cats" to a group of children ranging in age from kindergarten through 5th grade. After hearing the story, all the children thought this was a good book to read to kids, but that it might be too scary for the younger ones. They all like cat stories and liked how the cats helped prove Peter's "stories" to be true. They thought it had to be something important to get the cats to talk to people, though.The illustrations lead to discussions on how the pictures were used to bring out the most important parts of the story, such as how the King of the cats stood out from the crowd as he was being crowned and thought it was interesting that the priest looked angry but spoke kindly to Peter.There was the one child who prefered books with non-talking cats, though.

It came damaged. Box was smashed and the binding cracked. Otherwise it was fine and an old favorite tale of mine.

Aunt Mary read _King o' the Cats_ to niece Robin, age 8, who really loves cats. She liked it all, especially the coronation scene. Robin is involved in Renaissance Faire activities and is attuned to the rituals of royalty. Aunt Mary liked the irony of Father Allen gaining a reputation for telling tall tales. Also, the illustrations were lovely, dark and appropriately spooky.

Our class really liked the book King O' the Cats. Kelly enjoyed the crowning of the cats, and all the cats going meow, meow. Mary enjoyed the details, which made her want to read more and more. Cheyenne liked how in the beginning Peter was making up stories, and at the end, the priest does the same things. Marissa feels that the book was "fantastic and funny." She especially liked when Tom jumped up and shouted "Then I'm the king o' the cats!" Diana enjoyed reading about Peter's shortcut. Shannon liked it when the cat hit his head! Alex B. liked the cats on the foxes chasing the dog. Brittany's favorite part was the cats in the church. Alex C. made a text-to-self connection, since he has cats, and he felt bad when his cat died. Daniel H. made a text-to-text connection-it reminded him of The Secret Shortcut. Destin also made a text-to-text connection, with The Boy Who Cried Wolf. (He also feels this book should get a medal!) Efren liked when the cats cried for the dead king cat. Morgan liked the whole book, but especially when the cats were speaking. Preston says, "I love your book, oh yes I do!" Ty liked when Tom went up the fireplace chimney, and he liked the title, too. Michelle wants Aaron Shepard to write a King O' the Cats part 2!

This is a great and unusual series with exciting plot twists and likeable characters. I could hardly put it down. Sure hope the series continues!

This story has everything the first book had, and more! The adventure keeps you rooted to your seat, and the characters continue to develop and grow. I love reading this series, and already can't wait for the next one!

5 out of 5 stars. Enjoy the young characters. I am shy like High though no longer young. Loved the dragons and the library.

I fit within the target demographic audience for this book other than being to old. Nerdy, shy and introspective. The world is neat with potentially interesting magic systems. I feel the politics could grow interesting. It's flexible enough the author can keep thing interesting. It also has a lot of room to grow.The main character is supposed to help the reader invest them selves in the story, I believe. The problem he is SOOOO bland. He responds to EVERYTHING by blushing and acting shy. Maybe once or twice expressing himself in a different way. Everyone around him has a personality but the MC himself, nuthin.There were MANY example of truths just being dropped on the reader with no build up in both books. Rules of magic and character developments. These kept happening with no hints, no buildup. Just suddenly WHAM! important plot rule shows up.The romance in the book is really weak, it was supposed to come across as cute or heart warming i think, but I couldn't care much less about it. Build up and execution.... bland.I like the authors writing style but it can't over shadow the weak characters. Quick read also helps. I do think this at least come close to the wish fulfilment genre, at least with relationships. I just wish the MC felt less like a blank slate with god powers you know will only increase. He will also alawys be surrounded by emotional support that is so one sided....

I thought this was a really good sequel to a great self published book I read late last year. We get more world building, more insight into the unique magic system, and a ridiculous amount of dragons. This book was longer than the last one, and I thought it fleshed out the story nicely. The first book was an introduction to the world and magic system, while this one was more plot heavy, but still gave us a lot of background information we didn't have before.I had already liked the main characters, but it's fun to see them growing up a little and coming into their powers. There was some good action here, especially with Alustin showing off his particular brand of magic finally. I liked seeing the way the magic is put to use by people with different affinities and atunements. There are endless combinations, and the author is very creative with them, so I look forward to seeing more.Another thing I've come to really like about this series is the way magical creatures are portrayed. It's got a lot of creature's you would expect to see from mythology or a D&D type setting. The thing I like is that they feel very human. Magical creatures can use magic in the same way that humans do, can have wealth, and they can even rule a city populated by humans and other magical creatures. They still have their typical traits and/or powers, but it's in a more down to earth way that I found refreshing.Overall, another fun and light book perfect for a younger audience, or someone who wants a nice palate cleanser after something dark and heavy. I got lucky that I read the first one just a couple months before the second one was going to be released, but now I have a bit of a wait on my hands. I don't mind, because they were quick reads and the author didn't take too long between the two books.

I read book 1 and this book back to back over the course of maybe 3-4 days. Sometimes I find binge reading a series makes quirks/flaws stand out more. But in this case, it was a smooth transition between book 1 & 2. And I found the new settings and worldbuilding highly, highly intriguing. The powers of our main characters grew in exciting ways and the political intrigue added a nice layer to things (without being too convoluted). The action scenes were also more intense and suspenseful, and I stayed up all night to finish the story. I'm very happy to have found this series and will read book 3 as soon as it's released.

Honestly 9.5/10. I took off .5 because of some spelling errors and awkward phrasing (because I’m a somewhat harsh critic over little things that bug me), but the story was awesome. The first book was great, and this one was better. You can really feel the author coming into his own and polishing the story and characters more. Some of the twists are a bit cliche, but used well so it doesn’t make the story feel stale. I like how the universe was expanded by this, the continued character development that progresses at a natural rate, and some of the breadcrumbs that I think could be used in the future of the series to make a truly fantastic set of books.I read this in a couple of days, and this story is one of the first I’ve read in while that makes me want to reread it slowly to really take every nuance of the author’s work. I probably won’t do this because I have a bunch of other books to read, but if I have a chance I probably will.

I just discovered the first book last week and was delighted to learn the next book was already published. I read this quickly and thought even better than the first. There's nothing like a good coming of age story with magic and now dragons. I especially like that there's suspense and mystery, but it's not all doom and gloom. I greatly look forward to the next book in the series. I hope it's not the typical 3-book series and the author will extend it further. I see a lot of possibilities in ancillary series as well.

This is a well-written book that deserves 5 stars, but I can't give it 5 stars because the publisher didn't properly format it for Kindle. One of the key sections of the book is a list of recipes. None of them were entered/formatted properly by the publisher so the ingredient lists overlap the instructions. I'm disappointed Amazon let this slip through the cracks.

When I first switched to eating plant-based, the first edition of this book was my go-to guide on how to eat. My life has completely changed since I switched to plant-based, and I owe a lot of it to that first edition (I lost 60 lbs. after switching and have been able to keep it off). I ordered the second edition of the book not expecting there to be too much that has changed, but because it has been so impactful on my life, I knew I needed to get it. I am blown away by how more content is in this book. Julieanna and Ray put a lot of time and effort into revising and editing this edition. It’s shocking how much more evidence is out there now about how eating plant-based is the best way to expand your lifespan versus ten years ago.Julieanna and Ray have done an excellent job of giving everyone the research while keeping it simple enough that even I could read and understand it. This book completely revolutionized the way I look it food. Their information on metabolism, oxidative priority, and maximizing health span are fascinating. They broke the book up into four sections. The first part gives all the evidence as to why it is better to eat a whole food, plant-based diet. The second part discusses how to live a plant-based life. The third section focuses on how children, athletes, the elderly should eat. There’s also information about losing weight. And the last section gives great tips for eating out, what you should stock your pantry with, and a whole bunch of recipes.The part of the book that really blew my mind was how they brought to light our misconceptions about the macronutrients: proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. We often think of certain foods as being protein (beef) and others as carbs (white potatoes). But if you eat the same number of calories of white potatoes as 90% lean beef, you actually get a higher amino acid profile from the white potatoes. Protein is in reality needed in smaller amounts than most of us think, and since all living things are made up of amino acids, we don’t have to worry about becoming protein deficient on a plant-based diet.I am also really excited about the recipes section. Again, I thought that this was just going to be the recipes that were in the first edition, but there are tons of new ones here. I am really excited to start pouring through them and picking different ones to try.What emerges from this book is an impressive overview on how to live a healthy, plant-based lifestyle. Julieanna and Ray articulately lay out the case for why you should change the way you eat. And then they take you step-by-step on how you can implement this into your own life. They don’t say that it’s an easy journey, but it’s definitely one that is worth it.

There are several things that I appreciate about Hever's and Cronise's book:1) It's written for every body. In other words, most literate people will be able to read and understand the concepts presented. This is pretty cool, because nutrition is confusing and even though I'm not an idiot, the science of what I need to eat is clearly explained to me.2) It's non-judgmental. I'm a clinical hypnotherapist, so I understand what happens when people are told that they are overweight because they are gluttonous sloths. This book presents the information in a palatable way that releases folk from guilt while inciting them toward taking responsibility for their own health.3) Even for someone who has been studying and practicing (mostly) a plant-based regimen, I learned new stuff! I love learning new stuff, especially when it is based on science sources that I can trust.This book is joining my list of must-read resources for my clients who struggle with weight and nutrition issues. This book is easy to read and digest, and offers a lot of helpful mnemonics to refer to while conducting a psychiatric interview or in any other situation where one might need to ask relevant questions and make a differential diagnosis without actually referring to the DSM. I am only about 50 pages into the book and already I have come across sections that have helped clarify concepts that have confused me in the past despite asking questions of colleagues and reviewing other texts (e.g. how to differentiate schizoaffective disorder from a mood disorder, say depression or bipolar disorder, with psychotic features). I am a PMHNP student in the last year of a DNP program, and would recommend this to others in a similar position, providers in other specialties who want to know more about psychiatry, or anyone else with a genuine interest in understanding psychiatric interviewing and diagnosis better. I wish that I had found and read this book prior to some of my earlier coursework where I was evaluated on my ability to interview and diagnose, because I think it would have helped.

I'm a psychiatric nurse practitioner student, and after reading the author's previous pharmacology book, I had to get this one. This book just makes total sense and brings light to a subject that can be very confusing. The only thing that I would tell the author is that there are so many typos in the book that I wonder if it somebody proofread this ... Maybe I am a perfectionist (not OCD), but it bothers me a bit ... LOL

Im in school of PMHNP school now and im using this as a way to bring all the information together that im learning in school.its very helpful to break things down.

I am excited that the book is now available on Kindle! Unfortunately, many of the pictures in the Kindle edition appear to be incorrectly sized and are chopped up over multiple pages? Maybe Amazon can fix the pictures.

Very interesting and informative, keeps me wanting to read more and more and has a bunch of ways to memorize things.

I'm still working my way through the book, but since there are no other reviews, I'll share my thoughts so far...This book is a great starting point for getting your online business going. Consider it a basic outline for all the factors you're going to have to consider when starting your business. You won't find all the answers you need here, but this book will get you pointed in the right direction. As far as I can tell, the information is very up-to-date, which I imagine is a big challenge for a printed book about operating on the web.Many of the most popular books about online business creation are more inspirational. This book is practical. I think a good mix of the two is in order. So if you're looking for a practical guide, this is a nice option to consider.My only (minor) complaint is the silly "11 books in 1" tagline. No, it's not 11 books. It's one book with 11 sections. Just because the editors didn't bother to tie all the 11 sections in together, doesn't mean you get 11 books. But that's ok. I didn't want 11 books (who would?).

This book has definitely helped me start building my company. It has all the basics to hep you build your company, market it, and help with the build of your website. I found my website builder didn't offer much, especially when it comes to putting policies on the site, and this book helped me make great suggestions for other future companies using their website building platform.

I got this book for a college class, and it was pretty intimidating at first with its 800+ pages.But it's a really really good book on the subject and worth the read!!Part of it are a little dry, but most of the sections are kept brief and to the point, so even if you're not overly enjoying the topic, you're getting what you need to know from it, and it's information that will help your business that you might not have considered otherwise.The sections are nicely split up so that, although as a previous reviewer mentions, it's not 11 books in one, you can still kind of pretend it is, and tackle the pages by subject area. That way you can concentrate on learning one thing at the time and don't feel you have to rush through 800 pages, but instead can split it into chunks of around 200 pages at a time while still getting complete information.Really surprised by this book, considering it's in the for Dummies series, and only costs around 30. Well worth it if you're considering starting an online business, or an offline business with online aspects, such as a website or an online store.I borrowed a digital version of this book initially, but found it hard to follow or jump to sections that way. I much preferred the big heavy print version, maybe also because it fed my ego looking at how many pages I'd gotten through as I worked through the course and book.

I am still reading the book. Data is extremely helpful especially in the area of legal requirements for a business. Thank you to the authors for assembling this work as it makes it much easier to create a plan on creating my own business.

The book arrived in less than 72 hours after I purchased it. And let me say this book is a wealth of knowledge. I have read it cover to cover and have many page markers. It's written in easy to understand lingo and points out many things most people might over look. It's a large book but worth every word. I highly suggest purchasing this if your even considering starting a business. easy read, very detailed, great price, up to date , a must read. I would recommend this to friends and family. One of the better purchases I have made thus far in creating my online business. no regrets.

I don't like to post a review until I've finished a book but this one is obviously the one a person needs to get started in an e-business. As outlined in other posts it doesn't have advanced, minute details but it does bring up every subject one needs to know about in starting a business including a business plan, taxes, home office, internet security, etc. So far I've only finished about a third of the book and find that it's well written. It doesn't just have lots of information in it the book is easy to read and interesting. The part about taxes is not as interesting as the part about profit but that's life.

I love this book it really is an amazing book. This book really goes through all the steps you need to know to open an online business. Very detailed, easy to understand and I highly recommend it.

As with all other book in this series, it was well organized, easy to follow and understand and made quick work of finding helpful information without having to spend hours researching.Most importantly, the book offered valuable advice on many topics that I had not even considered. As a tradesman with some college, this book was invaluable to me and my current success as I spent the last few months setting up my website and now I am not only selling playsets on a regular basis, but I am installing and servicing them and have had to hire help to answer the phones , work in the field, and had to get an accountant to help with all of the money that is coming in and to aid me in my taxes. To me, this is my dream fulfilled and I honestly do not believe that my site would look as professional as it does or be as good as it is without the aid of this book- it truly was very helpful to me and I hope that if you are starting your own online business that you give it a try and see exactly what I mean as it walks you through everything from formulating an idea for a business, to getting the proper licensing, to implementing the site and going live on the net. I bought this for a friend who has had chronic pancreatitis for a number of years. She read and reread it (and continues to refer to it) and says it is the best book on the subject she ever read. She is very knowledgeable about her condition but said there was much she learned in this book. Her only regret was that she had not read it years ago. She lent it to a friend with acute pancreatitis who also found it extremely helpful. As a concerned friend, I read it myself and learned a lot about her condition.

This is the best informative book on pancreatitis. The drawings and the explanations are excellent. Also, the recipes for pancreatic patients, which is a lifelong diet after suffering this disease, are terrific. After reading article after article on acute pancreatitis, we gained so much more information from this handbook. Every pancreatic patient should be given this handbook. It has the best guidelines in living with the aftermath of pancreatitis that we've found before and after coming home from the hospital.

This book is thin enough to carry in my purse so I can look quick what I can eat. Nice diagrams also. Best book I've read that is simple enough to understand.

I suffered from acute pancreatitis a few months ago and this is the first book/information that actually helped me....great information and easy to understand.

Exceptional book...easy reading and very informative. Helped the entire family better understand what my daughter is going though and how we can help her.
